YouTube raises age limit for livestreaming
Big change coming: from July 22, 2025, you'll need to be at least 16 to go live on YouTube by yourself.
This is up from the old minimum of 13, and it's all about keeping younger users safer from things like cyberbullying and unwanted interactions during livestreams.
What happens if you're between 13-15
If you're between 13 and 15, you can still livestream—but only if an adult with channel manager access starts and stays on the stream with you.
No adult around? YouTube will shut down your chat or even remove your stream.
The idea is to get families more involved while making sure livestreaming stays safe.
YouTube's encouraging safer spaces for young creators
YouTube wants young creators to keep having fun online but in a safer space.
They're encouraging teens to team up with parents or guardians for streams, avoid sharing personal info, and keep chats positive.
It's a move meant to balance creativity with stronger protection for everyone under 16.
