Zoho's Arattai to get end-to-end encryption tonight: How it'll work

What's the story

Zoho Corporation's founder Sridhar Vembu has announced that the company's messaging platform, Arattai, will be getting end-to-end encryption from tonight. The update is aimed at improving user privacy and security on the platform. Vembu urged users to update their apps from the Play Store/App Store and encourage their contacts to do so as well.

User experience

How will the encryption update work?

Vembu explained that users will only be able to send end-to-end encrypted messages if both parties are using the latest version of Arattai. In such cases, a new end-to-end chat session will be created for that contact and the old non-end-to-end encrypted chat session will be archived. This way, users can ensure their conversations remain private and secure on the platform.

Chat continuity

Transition period for old chat sessions

For contacts using an older version of Arattai, users can continue to use the old chat session for three days. After this transition phase, Arattai will automatically upgrade everyone to the latest app and end-to-end encryption will be enforced system-wide. This ensures a smooth transition for all users while enhancing security measures on the platform.

Upcoming features

Group chats and backup options

As of now, group chats on Arattai don't have end-to-end encryption. However, Vembu has promised that it will be available in a few weeks for groups of a certain size. He also revealed that an option to back up end-to-end encrypted chats will be introduced in about two weeks, further improving user experience and data security on the platform.
