21st CWG: Weightlifter Vikas Thakur bags bronze for India

Can anything stop the Indian weightlifters at the 21st Commonwealth Games? Doesn't look like. Vikas Thakur has joined the elite list of medal winners amongst the weightlifters. The 24-year-old clinched the bronze medal in men's 94kg event. Notably, this is India's 8th medal in weightlifting at the ongoing event. Thakur had collected a total tally of 351kg to earn a medal.

Vikas once again on the podium in CWG

Thakur had won a silver medal in the men's 85kg category back in 2014 Glasgow Games. After shifting to a higher category, the Punjab athlete was delighted to be on the podium once again for India. He lifted a best of 159kg in snatch and then 192kg in clean and jerk. All his attempts were completed successfully.

PNG's Steven Kari was at another level after bagging the gold in the men's 94kg event. He broke the CWG record in clean and jerk (216kg) besides equalling the combined Games record of 370kg. 2nd placed Canadian Boady Santavy created CWG record by lifting 168kg.
