India A skipper Ashwin ruled out of Deodhar Trophy

In a massive blow to Ravichandran Ashwin's hopes of making a comeback to the India limited-overs squad, the ace off-spinner has been ruled out of the upcoming Deodhar Trophy. He would miss the tournament due to a slight niggle. Deodhar Trophy is scheduled to kick off in Dharamsala from March 4. Earlier this week, he was promoted to captaincy of Kings XI Punjab.

Ashwin rested due to a niggle

"Ashwin has a niggling issue and the BCCI Medical Team has advised him a week's rest," acting BCCI secretary, Amitabh Chaudhary was quoted in a press release. However, the BCCI didn't reveal further information about this 'niggle'.

Ashwin's hopes of a comeback to ODI dealt a blow

Ashwin, who was recently named Kings XI Punjab and India A captain, was looking forward to the Deodhar Trophy to showcase his skills in the 50-over format of the game. The selector's preference of Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav in the limited over format has kept Ashwin out of the team for over a year now.

    Shahbaz Nadeem as Ashwin's replacement

Indian selectors have named Shahbaz Nadeem as Ashwin's replacement and Ankit Bawne has been named the captain of the India A side. Akshdeep Nath has been moved to the India B side to facilitate the changes. Shreyas Iyer has been named captain of the India B side, whereas, Vijay Hazare champions Karnataka will be led by Karun Nair.
