Australia beat Bangladesh in 2nd T20I to seal series

What's the story

Australia have sealed the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh with a narrow seven-run triumph in the second T20I in Chattogram. A stunning knock from Matt Renshaw led Australia to a strong total of 196/5 while batting first. Tim David's explosive 45 also powered them. Though Bangladesh looked in control for the most part of the run chase, the Aussies crossed the finishing line.

1st innings 

Renshaw steadies Australian ship after dismal start

Early strikes from Bangladesh bowlers left Australia reeling at 44/3 in less than six overs. However, Renshaw took charge from there on, playing a composed yet aggressive innings. His 97-run partnership with David proved crucial as they took Australia to a strong position. Renshaw returned unbeaten on an 89 as Australia posted a strong score.

Chase 

Bangladesh falter after strong start

Bangladesh started strong, with their openers scoring 42 runs in the first three overs. However, Tanzid Hasan's early dismissal (30) gave Australia a breakthrough. Saif Hassan (42) and Soumya Sarkar kept the momentum going until Adam Zampa dismissed Soumya. Parvez Hossain then added a quickfire 36, but his dismissal triggered a middle-order collapse for Bangladesh. Skipper Towhid Hridoy made a fighting 35*, but his efforts went in vain as Bangladesh fell short (189/6).

Bowling highlights

Nasum Ahmed took two wickets for Bangladesh 

For Bangladesh, Nasum Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/27 across four overs. Mustafizur Rahman (1/34), Nahid Rana (1/36), and Abdul Gaffar Saqlain picked up a wicket each but struggled to contain Australia's middle order as Rishad Hossain (0/46) and Saqlain (1/43) proved expensive.

Renshaw

2nd T20I fifty for Renshaw

Renshaw smashed four fours and five sixes en route to his 52-ball 89*. As per ESPNcricinfo, this was his second T20I fifty and also his career-best T20I score, which took him to 227 runs from eight games at 37.83 (SR: 126.81). Overall, this was his 10th half-century in the 20-over format, as he also boasts a ton.

David 

Fine hand from David as well

David, who missed out on a fifty, smoked two fours and four sixes for his 26-ball 45. He now has 1,667 runs from 73 T20Is at an average of 34.72. His tally includes a strike rate of 167.7. The Aussie star owns 10 fifty-plus scores in the format (1 ton). 1,109 of his T20I runs have come for Australia at 30.80.

During his stay, David also went past 6,500 T20 runs. He got to the landmark in his 334th appearance. Across 299 innings, the right-handed dasher has an average of 30-plus and a strike rate of over 163. He has 451 fours besides 425 sixes.

Bangladesh batters 

Four Bangladesh batters scored 30-plus 

Hassan, who smoked three fours and two sixes during his 33-ball 42, scored the most for the hosts. Three other Bangladesh batters touched the 30-run mark but couldn't play the defiant knock. While Tanzid's 15-ball 30 was laced with four fours and a six, Emon hit three sixes and two fours (36 off 22). Skipper Hridoy's 35* off 22 balls saw him hit two sixes and three fours.

Aussie bowlers 

Two wickets for Hardie

Pacer Aaron Hardie was the only Aussie bowler to strike more than once, finishing with 4/40 from four overs. Nathan Ellis (1/27) and Adam Zampa (1/39) also struck once in their respective four-over spells. Renshaw (1/13 from 2 overs) and Joel Davies (1/21 from 3 overs) also bowled vital spells.
