BCCI seeks new Junior Cricket Committee: Why it matters
What's the story
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking to give its new Junior Cricket Committee a wider mandate. The five-member panel will now be responsible for educating young cricketers about the dangers of drugs, betting, and match-fixing. The board has invited applications for the positions till September 5. The move comes in light of the increasing money and fame associated with even Under-19 cricket.
Committee transition
New panel to replace 1 led by S Sharath
The new panel will replace the one led by S Sharath, appointed in September 2021. It has now completed its five-year term.
The current committee's last task will be selecting the Rest of India U-23 squad for the Junior Irani Cup.
The new committee will also select age-group teams up to Under-22 for coaching camps and junior fixtures against domestic and international opposition.

Key responsibilities of the new committee
The new committee will also scout and assess players during domestic and international matches.
It will contribute to the selection and development of teams for camps, tours, and tournaments in India and abroad.
Another key responsibility would be vetting coaches/support staff such as physiotherapists, trainers, therapists/analysts/medics, for respective junior teams.
The committee will monitor performance/development of junior sides while preparing periodic evaluation reports.
Administrative duties
Eligibility criteria for applicants
The committee will also organize BCCI junior tournaments and overseas junior tours. It will deal with matters relating to their conduct and administration.
Applicants for these positions must be former players who have played a minimum of 25 First-Class matches and retired at least five years ago.
Those who have served on any BCCI Cricket Committee for a cumulative period of five years will not be eligible.
