Women's cricket: IPL-style T20 exhibition before playoffs

After talking about an IPL-style league for women's cricketers for a while, the BCCI is ready to take the first step. In order to test the feasibility, the Indian cricket board will host a women's T20 exhibition game before the IPL 2018 playoffs on May 22 at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. Here is all you need to know.

A new chapter for women's cricket

According to reports, the IPL Governing Council has given the nod to host an exhibition game that will consist of four foreign players in each team. The match will start at 2:30 PM in the afternoon well ahead of the Qualifier 1 which is likely to be played from 7 PM onwards. This could be a historic move for women's cricket in India.

The BCCI is said to be drawing inspiration from the Women's Big Bash League which has seen a lot of progress in recent past. Such leagues have encouraged the BCCI to have its own IPL-style league in the coming time.

Across both teams there would be 10 foreign and 20 Indian players as stated by Committee of Administrators member Diana Edulji. The players for the exhibition game are set to be picked up by the national selection committee. Reports also state that other country boards like England, Australia and South Africa have been contacted to make their players available for the exhibition match.
