Football: Barcelona humbled, City shatter records

What's the story

An exciting season of the English Premier League came to an end with Manchester City not just winning the Premier League title but breaking several records en route to glory. Newcastle humbled Chelsea, whereas, Liverpool won. In La Liga, Barcelona were hit real bad by lowly placed Levante as their 'invincibles' dream was brought to an end in their penultimate game. Here's the round-up.

Outclassed

Newcastle thrash Chelsea 3-0

Antonio Conte's Chelsea were beaten by an outstanding Newcastle on the final day of the Premier League. Goals from Dwight Gayle and Ayoze Pérez ensured the Magpies beat the London outfit 3-0. The loss meant that Chelsea finished fifth on the table, 5 points behind fourth placed Liverpool. They will have to settle for a spot in Europa League next season.

Liverpool secure Champions League spot in style

Liverpool were at their devastating best as they secured a 4-0 victory over Brighton. Goals from Salah, Lovren, Solanke and Robertson sealed Liverpool's place in Champions League next season. Mo Salah set a new Premier League record as he scored his 32nd goal, which is the most by any player in a 38-game Premier League season. The Egyptian was also handed the Golden Boot.

Wenger bids adieu with a victory

Arsene Wenger's 1,235-game reign as Arsenal's manager came to an end with a 1-0 victory over Huddersfield. Aubameyang netted the only goal of the fixture to brighten the mood as Arsenal prepared to bid goodbye to their most successful manager. Wenger was given a standing ovation in the 22nd minute by fans to celebrate his 22 year long stint.

Record-breaking

City finish season with a record 100 points

Champions Manchester City's season ended on a high note as they beat Southampton 1-0 to end the season with an incredible 100 points. Substitute Gabriel Jesus scored the only goal at the St Mary's stadium with the last kick of the game. City finished 19 points ahead of second place Manchester United, with 50 points coming from away game and 50 at home.

Spurs finish 3rd, United give Carrick a farewell

Tottenham finished third this season after a nerve wrecking 5-4 victory over Leicester City on the final day of the Premier League. Harry Kane scored a brace to finish and has 30 goals under his belt. Manchester United beat Watford 1-0 in Michael Carrick swansong game. Marcus Rashford scored the only goal of the fixture.

Barcelona's unbeaten season comes to an end

Barcelona's dream of achieving the unbeaten status throughout this La Liga campaign came to an end as they were beaten by Levante in their penultimate match. Levante took a 5-1 lead before the 60th minute. Barca, however, pulled things back to make it 5-4 but couldn't prevent themselves their first defeat in 44 games.

Real Madrid came out all guns blazing against Celta Vigo beating them 6-0 at the Bernabeu. Gareth Bale scored twice for the Los Blancos, while Isco and Kroos too found themselves on the score-sheet. Zidane's men look in great form ahead of the Champions League final where they have a chance to win 3 titles in a row.
