Dravid gets conflict of interest notice from BCCI: Details here

Former Indian cricket team captain Rahul Dravid is the latest to be drawn into the conflict of interest. He was sent a notice by the Board of Control for Cricket's (BCCI) Ethics Officer. According to a report in PTI, this happened after specific conflict of interest allegations levelled against Dravid. He is currently the head of National Cricket Academy's Cricket Operations. Here's more.

Why did BCCI send a conflict of interest notice?

BCCI's Ombudsman-cum-Ethics Officer Justice DK Jain sent Dravid the notice after receiving a complaint from Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association life member Sanjeev Gupta. The complaint was raised after Gupta alleged Dravid of being the NCA Director and also being employed as vice-president of India Cements group. Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings is owned by India Cements group.

Dravid has been given two weeks to reply: Jain

"Yes, I have sent a notice to Rahul Dravid last week after receiving a complaint. He has been given two weeks to reply to the allegations of conflict of interest. Based on his reply, I will decide whether to proceed further or not," Jain said.

Gupta had earlier complained against Sachin and VVS

Meanwhile, Gupta had earlier made conflict of interest complaints against Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman. This was for their dual roles as Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) members and mentors of IPL franchises, Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively. Besides the two, Sourav Ganguly, also faced allegations levelled by Bhaswati Santua for being the Cricket Association of Bengal president as well as Delhi Capitals' mentor.

    Ganguly lashes out at BCCI

Laxman, Sachin and Dada left role as CAC members

Meanwhile, the CAC, which included these three legends, stands dissolved. They had earlier made it clear to the BCCI Ethics Officer that they won't take up this role following the conflict of interest cases, which were filed against them. Back in May, Laxman had also hit out against the BCCI and the CoA. The new one is being headed by Kapil Dev.

Entire saga surrounding the matter is uncalled for

Earlier, Jain had questioned their presence at the ICC World Cup 2019 as commentators, since it is against the one person, one post doctrine propagated by the Lodha reforms. The entire conflict of interest issue and the handling of matters by BCCI in relation with the CAC as well seem to be muddled up. In this rate, things will further worsen.
