5 short-lived WWE shows whose existence we have forgotten
We all know that WWE broadcasts two weekly shows- Raw and SmackDown. But many of us have forgotten that there were other programs as well, which did not see the light of the day as long as these two flagship shows. While some of these delivered original content, others were mainly highlight reels. Here we take a look at these forgotten WWE shows.
WWE Confidential: A behind-the-scenes look at the stars
Aired on Saturday nights, Confidential was a unique show by WWE, where Gene Okerlund was the host and fans were given a peep into how the company runs. In one of the most famous incidents on this show, Shawn Michaels confirmed he had knowledge about the Montreal Screwjob before it aired. Confidential also provided a look at how the Monday Night Wars went down.
The Main Event featured some top talents before being shelved
The Main Event is a forgotten WWE gem, which featured some top stars of the day in action. The show first aired on February 5, 1988, and featured a Championship match between Hulk Hogan and Andre The Giant. The Main Event has a total of 5 episodes which are all sensational. Interestingly, WWE has now made all of them available on the WWE Network.
Shotgun Saturday Night: Another epic show
Another epic show that the WWE canceled is Shotgun Saturday. It was aired late night and catered to a more mature audience. It was broadcast from various nightclubs, which gave the show a unique look not seen before in professional wrestling. However, later only low-card talents and Raw's highlights were shown on Shotgun Saturday and it was ultimately canceled.
WWF Friday Night's Main Event: The Raw replacement
It will come as a surprise to many that Raw did not air for two weeks in 1997, due to the US Open being hosted by the same channel. And as a result, WWE started broadcasting Friday Night's Main Event, where the rivalry between Undertaker and Shawn Michaels led to the first Hell in a Cell match. Low ratings led to its discontinuation.
WWE Heat: This show continued for eight years
WWE Heat was a popular show which was only scraped in 2008, and it mainly served as a promotion of next week's Raw episode. Heat saw appearance by numerous upper-mid card and top wrestlers. They continued the storylines from the previous episodes of Raw. Interestingly, it was only after SmackDown was introduced and heavily promoted, Heat resorted to its secondary status.
