ICC World Cup: Rahul Dravid serves warning to Team India
There was a lot of talk regarding the Indian cricket team being favorites to win the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. But the ODI series defeat against Australia earlier this month, served as a warning for the Virat Kohli-led side. With just over two months left for the World Cup, legend Rahul Dravid feels that India have to play well to earn the trophy.
'We have to play the World Cup very, very well'
"I think there was a notion that we are going walk there and win the World Cup easily. So it's a good thing that has happened. What it has reminded us is that we have to play the World Cup very, very well," Dravid said.
What happened in the series against Australia?
India started off well and took a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. But then the Aussies hit back and sealed the series 3-2 after three consecutive wins. India's weakness in the middle order and over dependence on the top three saw the side go down. Certain players failed to grab their opportunities and India failed to keep up with the good work.
Dravid has his say after watching India vs Australia series
"But I don't find anything strange, from my perspective, watching the series. I still feel that we are going to be one of the favourites. But it's going to be tough. It's going to be competitive," Dravid went on to add.
India and England are the favorites to win World Cup
India and England are the two favorites to win the coveted Cricket World Cup. Both sides have played a consistent brand of cricket and the experience will come handy. But there are many top quality sides out there and every match will be competitive. Australia have started to find their rhythm as well and can be strong candidates. So it won't be easy.
Middle order the issue for India
The issue for India will be the middle order. India haven't yet cracked the number four position in batting and whoever comes in, it will be an uphill task. A lot will revolve around MS Dhoni to steer the ship in the tournament.
