F1: Sebastian Vettel beats Lewis Hamilton to Bahrain title

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel won the Bahrain Grand Prix beating Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton, in a hard fought race. Vettel now leads overall in the F1 Championship race with 68 points, followed by Hamilton (61). Hamilton overcame a poor start and a five-second penalty, made a late charge, but came up short and settled for second. Hamilton's Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas finished third.

    Bahrain Grand Prix summary

Bahrain Grand Prix is the F1 Championship race held in Bahrain International Circuit, Sakhir, near Bahrain's capital city of Manama. When first held in 2004," it marked the first ever round of F1 World Championship to be held in the Middle East." Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel (recent win included) have the most wins here, 3. Nico Rosberg won the 2016 Bahrain Grand Prix.

    Tournament schedule

The 2017 edition of the Bahrain Grand Prix was held from 14-16 April. Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas took his maiden pole position while Lewis Hamilton set the fastest lap of the race.

    Crashes and exits

7 of 20 cars failed to make it to the end at Bahrain race. This includes both the McLarens which suffered a recurring power unit problems. Red Bull's Max Verstappen too crashed out of the race after 11 laps due to brake failure. The collision between Toro Rosso's Carlos Sainz and Williams driver Lance Stroll, during a round of pit stops, forced their exit.

Hamilton apologizes for the pit blunder

Lewis Hamilton apologized to his Mercedes team for the pit-lane incident which resulted in his 5-second penalty. Admitting the error he said, "Yeah, completely my fault with the safety car...Just a misjudgement from myself. Apologies to the team...Losing points for a team, particularly when you could have won the race, is definitely painful but I gave it everything I could."
