What's the story

Delhi police arrested former international athlete along with two other people having with 25 kilogram of Mephedrone drug (popularly known as meow-meow). The trio was arrested at the New Delhi railway station after the special cell was informed about two people flying to Mumbai to receive a drug consignment. The three arrested were allegedly working as Delhi-based agents of an international drug syndicate.

Who is Harpreet Singh?

Harpreet Singh is an international level discus thrower who has represented India at various competitions. At the 2004 Commonwealth Youth Games held in Australia, Harpreet had won a silver medal in discus throw. In 2006, he bagged a bronze medal at the South Asian Games in Colombo. He was forced to quit the sport following a foot injury before the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

According to the police, before Harpreet quit the sport, he was handed a six-month ban after testing positive for steroids at a national competition.

Biggest drug recovery for police in the capital

The 25 kilograms worth Rs, 50 crore meow-meow recovery is probably the biggest ones from the national capital. Harpreet was accompanied by Amandeep Singh and Harnish Sarpal, both having unsuccessful careers in London. After interrogation of Harpreet, police grabbed another 650 grams of the drug from Delhi's Janakpuri area. Police said that the trio had joined the racket after a failed career.

After the interrogation, police revealed that the drugs are brought in the country from Africa. They added that after the drugs entered Mumbai, they were spread across the country and even exported to USA, Malaysia and Middle-east countries.
