    What's the story

Harry Brook is set to make his debut as England's 37th One Day International (ODI) captain in the upcoming series against Australia.

This leadership role comes as a result of Jos Buttler's withdrawal owing to a calf injury.

The first match under Brook's captaincy will be held on September 19 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

    Here are further details.

    Leadership history

A look at Brook's leadership journey

Brook, who previously led the England Under-19 team in the 2018 World Cup in New Zealand, will be captaining the national side for the first time.

His leadership experience also includes captaining Yorkshire in T20 Blast 2022 and Northern Superchargers in The Hundred this year.

Prior to Brook, Zak Crawley was appointed as England's ODI captain for a series against Ireland last year.

    Captaincy legacy

England's ODI history under various captains

Ray Illingworth was the first to captain England in an ODI against Australia in January 1971.

The team's most successful period was under Eoin Morgan's leadership from 2014 to 2022, which included their maiden ODI World Cup win in 2019.

Morgan has been England's most-capped captain, having led in 126 matches.

Following him is Alastair Cook who captained nearly half as many games (69).
