India beat Australia in first ODI: Here're records broken
India beat Australia in the first ODI to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The Aussies managed to score 236/7 after a late rally by Alex Carey and Nathan Coulter-Nile. Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami had a good day at office. In reply, veteran MS Dhoni and utility player Kedar Jadhav helped India chase down the target. Here are the records broken.
Aaron Finch's poor form continues
Australian skipper Aaron Finch (0) fell prey to poor form yet again. The opening batsman has not managed a single fifty in his last 21 innings in white-ball cricket. In his last eight international innings (most recent first), Finch has managed seven single digit scores (0, 8, 0, 14, 6, 6, 3, 8). In the recently concluded T20I series, he scored 8 and 0.
Maxwell achieves a special feat, Bumrah scripts unwanted record
Glenn Maxwell, who was the hero in the T20I series win, chipped in with a knock of 40. Maxi now has scored 643 ODI runs against India. This is the highest tally by Maxwell against any nation. He surpassed the 640-run tally amassed against England. Jasprit Bumrah (2/60) conceded 60-plus in an ODI match since the match against Pakistan at The Oval in 2017.
Pair of Rohit-Kohli shine, Dhawan registers fifth career ODI duck
Shikhar Dhawan registered his fifth career ODI duck. It was his third career duck against Australia and the second in 2019 (both against Australia). Virat Kohli (44) and Rohit Sharma (37) added 76 runs. They have added more runs against Australia as a pair than anybody else. The two went past the previous record of 927 runs stitched between Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit himself.
Dhoni surpasses Rohit in this record
MS Dhoni hit one six in the match. With this, he has now hit the most number of sixes for India in ODIs. Dhoni (216 sixes) went past Rohit (215). Overall, Dhoni has 223 sixes in ODIs, including the innings played for Asia XI. MSD also registered his 71st fifty in ODIs. Kedar Jadhav registered his fifth career ODI fifty.
Some other feats achieved in this match
Mohammed Shami (2/44) now has 110 ODI scalps. He equalled the tally of Yuvraj Singh (110 wickets). Australia's Usman Khawaja (50) amassed his sixth ODI fifty. India registered their third victory in ODIs at this venue (W 3, L 3).
