What's the story

The 2025 ICC Women's World Cup will begin on September 30, with India and Sri Lanka co-hosting the tournament. This is the first time Sri Lanka are hosting, while India have hosted the event three times before. Under Harmanpreet Kaur's leadership, the Indian team is eyeing its maiden title. Here we look at India's run in WODI World Cups over the years.

India are two-time runners-up

Though India are yet to taste the glory, they have finished as the runner-up twice in the Women's World Cup - first in 2005 and then again in 2017. The team lost to Australia and England respectively, on the two occasions. The 1997 and 2000 events saw the Women in Blue crash out in the semi-finals. They attained the third-place finish in the 2009 edition, which did not have the semi-final stage.
