Year-ender: How India's T20I side fared in 2025
What's the story
India, the top-ranked T20I side, flourished in 2025 under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav. Despite his poor batting form, Suryakumar helped the Men in Blue scale new heights in the shortest format. They won the Men's T20 Asia Cup, defeating Pakistan in the final. While India will begin their ICC T20 World Cup title defense next year, have a look at their run in 2025.
England
India humble England 4-1 at home
In their first T20I assignment of 2025, India hosted England in a five-match series. The hosts won by a 4-1 margin, losing their only game in Rajkot. Abhishek Sharma stood out with 257 runs at a strike rate of 219.68. He slammed a record-breaking 135 (54) in the final T20I at Wankhede Stadium. Meanwhile, spinner Varun Chakravarthy was the only bowler with 10-plus wickets (14 scalps at 9.85).
Tournament journey
India's Asia Cup 2025 campaign
India next traveled to the UAE in September for the T20 Asia Cup. They remained unbeaten in the tournament, defeating arch-rivals Pakistan thrice, including the final. Abhishek Sharma was instrumental during this match. In the final, Tilak Varma played a crucial role with his steady knock of 69* off 53 balls. India secured their ninth Asia Cup title (ODIs and T20Is combined).
Numbers
Unique numbers for Asia Cup winners
India have had an unbeaten run in both their T20 Asia Cup title wins (2016 and 2025). They also won the 2023 Asian Games and the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup without a defeat. India have won four of the last five Asia Cups (2025, 2023, 2018, and 2016). They failed to reach the final in 2022.
Australia
India beat Australia 2-1 Down Under
India faced some challenges during the T20I series against Australia, winning it 2-1. Two games were washed out. Shubman Gill's form was a concern as he managed a solitary 40-plus score. Suryakumar also continued to be in a downward spiral. During the final match, Abhishek completed 1,000 T20I runs, the second-fastest Indian to do so after Virat Kohli (by innings).
South Africa
India win against SA at home
In December, India beat South Africa 3-1 in the five-match T20I series at home. The 4th T20I in Lucknow was abandoned due to excessive fog. The series marked all-rounder Hardik Pandya's return to white-ball cricket. He was earlier recovering from an injury. Meanwhile, Chakravarthy was adjudged the Player of the Series. Notably, this was India's eighth successive bilateral T20I series win.
Record
Overall record in 2025

He hammered 859 runs with a strike rate of 193.46. Chakravarthy has the joint-most T20I wickets this year (36) with Pakistan's Mohammad Nawaz. The former averages an incredible 13.19.
