Harmanpreet Singh opened the scoring for India as he found the back of the net from a penalty corner in the 17th minute.
India did not have to wait long to double the lead. In the 28th minute, Mandeep Singh scored as he doubled India's advantage.
This was Mandeep's second goal of the Champions Trophy in two matches.
Olympic champions Argentina immediately struck back in 29th minute when they were handed a penalty corner.
Gonzalo Peillat scored with a penalty stroke to pull one goal back.
Argentina were trying hard to score the equalizer but India's defense completely shut them out to secure a 2-1 victory.
Argentina had gone into the game as clear favorites but over performance from India stunned them.
The win was a memorable game especially for former captain Sardar Singh. He was playing his 300th game for the nation. India will take on world champions Australia in their next match on June 27.
