What's the story

Virat Kohli eclipsed former Indian cricket skipper Sourav Ganguly's record as he registered his 22nd Test victory as a captain. Under Ganguly's captaincy, India had notched 21 Test wins. India won the third Test against England at Nottingham and with this win, Kohli became India's second most successful skipper behind MS Dhoni. Here is more about this remarkable achievement by Virat Kohli.

Kohli

Kohli only behind MS Dhoni

Under Kohli's captaincy, India have become a force to reckon with, even in overseas conditions. India's most successful captain MS Dhoni has 27 Test wins. Kohli has 13 wins at home and 9 away. Sourav Ganguly had 10 wins at home and 11 away. Kohli needs 3 overseas wins to become the most successful Indian skipper away from home.

Personal

Kohli following in Dada's footsteps in winning outside India

Kohli is definitely following Ganguly's steps in creating a name for himself away from home. Dada will always be known for success outside India and Kohli, too, is scripting crucial victories on foreign soil. Meanwhile, Dhoni had only 6 wins outside India.

Success

Kohli in sight of being most successful ever

Kohli has captained India in 38 Tests so far including the Nottingham match. Out of these 38 matches, winning 22 is remarkable. MS had captained India in 60 matches. It looks like Kohli will surpass Dhoni's record in the near future to become the most successful Indian captain ever. This win is Kohli's 2nd outside the subcontinent this year.

Records

Kohli overtook Ganguly in this record as well

Earlier, during the third Test at Nottingham, Kohli surpassed Dada to become India's highest run-getting Test skipper overseas. Dada had a stellar 1,693 runs to his name as a skipper outside India and Kohli, who smashed 97 in the first innings, surpassed Ganguly. With another scintillating innings (103) in the 2nd innings, Kohli now has 1,834 runs away from home.
