Winning the toss, KXIP's Ravichandran Ashwin decided to bowl, as he moved in with a bowling dominated side. While MI put up a challenging total of 176 runs, KXIP chased it down, courtesy Rahul's prolific innings of 71.
MI put up challenging total, KXIP nourish home advantage
Batting first, MI lost skipper Rohit Sharma in the fifth, but managed 62 runs in the power-play, while they posted a challenging total of 176/7. During the chase, KXIP were off to a steady start, scoring 38 runs in the opening six. From thereon, they chased down the total with ease as they won by 8 wickets, in what was a one-sided victory.
Quinton de Kock, KL Rahul shine for respective teams
While Quinton de Kock was the top scorer for MI, scoring a sound knock of 60, Krunal Pandya claimed 2/43 in the innings. For KXIP, Rahul was the top scorer, scoring a 57-ball 71, while Mohammed Shami claimed 2/42.
MI take on CSK, KXIP up against DC
Notably, MI will next be seen in action against CSK on April 3, whereas, KXIP will lock horns with DC on April 1. Post this victory, KXIP are now covering the gap with 11-12 advantage in their head-to-head matches against MI. The win also takes KXIP to the third spot in the IPL 2019 table, while MI are down to the sixth spot.
