What's the story

Former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has broken a major record in the Indian Premier League (IPL). During MI's second match of IPL 2026 against Delhi Capitals at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, the veteran batsman hit his 51st six against DC. With this, he became the Indian batter with the most IPL sixes against a single team, as per ESPNcricinfo. He surpassed MS Dhoni's record of 50 sixes against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Most sixes against one team in IPL

Rohit, who opened the innings for MI, scored 35 runs off 26 balls, hitting five fours and a six. His six against Vipraj Nigam in the seventh over of the match helped him break Dhoni's long-standing record. The world record for most sixes against one team in IPL is held by Chris Gayle - 61 sixes against Punjab Kings and 54 sixes against Kolkata Knight Riders. No other batter owns a half-century of IPL sixes against a team.

Rohit only behind Kohli 

Rohit owns a fine IPL record versus DC, scoring 1,092 runs from 38 games at an average of 31.2. His tally includes six fifties and a strike rate of 132.68. Rohit is only behind Virat Kohli (1,130) in terms of batters with the most IPL runs versus DC. Meanwhile, no other batter has even 900 runs in this regard.

Career 

Second-most runs in IPL 

Last season, Rohit became the second batter in IPL history to complete 7,000 runs after Kohli (8,730). The former has raced to 7,159 runs from 274 matches (269 innings) at an average of 29.95. His strike rate is a fine 132.62. The MI star has tallied 50 scores of 50 or more in the IPL, including two hundreds. Rohit (309) and Gayle (357) happen to be the only batters with 300-plus IPL sixes.
