What's the story

Pakistan's bowlers, led by spinner Abrar Ahmed, dominated the third ODI match against South Africa in Faisalabad on Saturday. The visitors were bowled out for a mere 143 runs after opting to bat first. Pakistan lost an early wicket but managed to chase down the target comfortably, winning by seven wickets and clinching the three-match series 2-1. On this note, we list down SA's lowest all-out totals against Pakistan in ODIs.

#1

101/10 in Sharjah, 2000

Topping this list is SA's 101/10 in the 2000 Sharjah affair against Pakistan. On a tricky surface, the Proteas team needed to chase down a paltry-looking 169. Though opener Herschelle Gibbs got going from one end, he did not get any support. Gibbs returned unbeaten on 59 as Mark Boucher (14) was the only other batter to enter double digits. Five batters bagged ducks as SA were folded in just 26.5 overs. Shoaib Akhtar claimed 3/9 in 4.5 overs.

#2

143/10 in Faisalabad, 2025

The 143/10 in the aforementioned Faisalabad ODI takes the second place on this list. The South African batting order crumbled after a promising start from Quinton de Kock and Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who put on a 72-run opening partnership. The team lost its final eight wickets for just 37 runs, as the innings only lasted 37.5 overs. Abrar Ahmed was the star of the show, picking up four wickets. The hosts later won by seven wickets.

#3

143/10 in Dubai, 2013

The 2013 Dubai ODI between these two sides also saw SA get folded for exactly 143 in 40.4 overs. The African team was chasing 210 that day. Their innings never got going as the Pakistan bowlers struck at regular intervals. Jean-Paul Duminy (25), Ryan McLaren (29*), and Wayne Parnell (21) were the only SA batters with 20-plus scores in the game. Mohammad Irfan and Shahid Afridi claimed three wickets each in Pakistan's 66-run triumph.
