Martin Guptill to assist West Indies in NZ T20I series
What's the story
Former New Zealand batter Martin Guptill has joined the West Indies camp to provide specialist support. The 39-year-old will assist the visiting team in their five-match T20I series against New Zealand, starting November 5. The first two matches of the series will be played at Eden Park in Auckland. Notably, Guptill remains the only New Zealand player to have smashed over 3,000 runs in T20I cricket.
Career highlights
Guptill retired from international cricket in January
Guptill called time on his international career in January this year. The 39-year-old played 367 matches for the Black Caps in his 14-year career (2009-2022). Guptill made his debut in 2009 and last played for New Zealand in October 2022. He will now work with former West Indies all-rounder and current head coach Daren Sammy during his short stint with the team.

Team strategy
WI eye another series win after Bangladesh whitewash
The West Indies team, led by Shai Hope, would take on New Zealand in five T20Is between November 5 and 13. After a 3-0 whitewash of Bangladesh away from home, the Caribbean side hopes to keep its winning streak going. This is crucial as they prepare for the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in India and Sri Lanka.
Team comeback
New Zealand aim to bounce back at home
On the other hand, New Zealand are looking to bounce back from a disappointing home series loss against Australia and England last month. Led by Mitchell Santner, the Kiwis are keen on reclaiming their rhythm on home soil. The upcoming T20I series against West Indies will be a perfect opportunity for them to do so.
