Five WWE title changes that should not have been allowed
The WWE Championship is the most prestigious title a wrestler in the company can win. It is usually handed to the biggest star of a particular era as the WWE title is a main-event priority. However, over the years, WWE has indeed made some judgmental errors while deciding the champion, and here we bring to you the five such instances.
One of the worst WWE champions of all time was Jinder Mahal. No one expected him to suddenly rise from the mid-card and win the company's biggest prize in a matter of weeks. WWE's ratings drastically dropped during his reign, and mid to low card matches got more priority from fans. Mahal is surely not winning the WWE Championship ever again.
JBL changed his gimmick after The Acolytes broke up and became a limousine-riding Texan. He was surprisingly given a long title reign when other deserving wrestlers were on the cards like Edge, Eddie Guerrero, and Rey Mysterio. JBL's matches were never exciting as he was never a gifted performer, and the only good thing that came of it was his feud with John Cena.
Another disappointing title reign was that of Alberto Del Rio who won the title at Money in The Bank 2011 and defeated CM Punk. Del Rio never managed to become the top face or heel for WWE, and his title reign was plain boring. This prevented CM Punk from achieving the glory that he deserved and also resulted in poor main event matches.
It is not that Lesnar is a bad wrestler or incapable of being WWE's top guy, but the one thing why his recent Universal Championship reign has not worked out is because of his part-time status. If the top title is not put in contention often or the premier champion of the company fails to show up for weeks, ratings will naturally plummet.
The Great Khali won the Heavyweight Championship after Edge quit WWE due to health concerns. What WWE should have realized is that Khali hardly had the qualities to become the face of the company. He was not a good performer, had almost zero skills in cutting a promo, and if one compares him to The Rock, you will know what exactly is the difference.
