Rohit Sharma takes pay cut to stay with Mumbai

Rohit Sharma, who has been the skipper of the Mumbai Indians, was the first player to be retained by the franchise for the upcoming edition of the IPL. Mumbai Indian forked out a massive Rs. 15 cr to keep hold of IPL's most successful captain. However, it has been revealed that Rohit Sharma could have demanded far more money but opted not to.

Rohit's love affair with Mumbai Indians

Rohit Sharma is not only one of the most destructive batsmen in limited overs cricket, he is also IPL's most successful captain. Indian skipper, Virat Kohli cost RCB Rs. 17 cr and Rohit could have received similar amount. But the Mumbai Indians skipper, Rohit Sharma decided to take a pay cut to stay with the franchise.

Rs. 47 cr left in Mumbai Indian's kitty

The announcement regarding the retained players was done on 4th January. Mumbai Indian opted to retain Rohit Sharma, death-over specialist Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Hardik Pandya. Mumbai Indians are now left with Rs. 47 cr to spend in the auctions which will be held on the 27th and 28th of this month. This pay-cut by Rohit should help Mumbai Indians build a IPL-winning tea,.

Rohit's gesture shows he is a leader

"Rohit is a leader not just on-field but off it too. We have seen him dropping to No 3 or lower down the batting order at times only to bring balance to the side...proves that he keeps the team's priority over self" a source said.
