The Indian cricket team set Bangladesh a 315-run target in match number 40 of the ICC World Cup 2019 at Edgbaston on Tuesday. Rohit Sharma (104) scored his fourth century in World Cup 2019. India showed positive intent from the beginning. Bangladesh will need to bat well to chase down the target. Here's more.

Opening stand

Rohit and Rahul lay a strong foundation

Rohit, who scripted a host of records, smashed seven fours and five sixes in a 92-ball inning. The celebrated cricketer was dropped on nine by Tamim Iqbal. He then made the Tigers pay with a sublime century. Rohit and KL Rahul (77) added 180 runs for the first wicket. This was the best opening stand in the 2019 World Cup.

Credit goes to Rahul for getting some valuable runs under his belt. Prior to this knock, he had scored a duck against England. The pressure was on him to perform. This was Rahul's second fifty in World Cup. He smashed six fours and a six.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh hit back with regular wickets

India lost Rohit and Rahul in quick succession, before Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant added 42 for the third wicket. Kohli scored a 27-ball 26. Bangladesh enjoyed this period with Mustafizur Rahman then picking up the wicket of Hardik Pandya (0). From 180/0, India were dragged back at 237/4. Soumya Sarkar started the revival for Bangladesh with the wicket of Rohit.

Pant plays a cameo, Mustafizur excels

Rishabh Pant played a cameo in the middle with a 41-ball 48. He hit six fours and one maximum. This was Pant's highest score in ODIs. Shakib Al Hasan (1/41) got the wicket of Pant. Mustafizur then got Dinesh Karthik (8) to stand out for the Tigers. Veterans MS Dhoni batted on at the death to help India get past 300.
