What's the story

Indian skipper Shubman Gill has continued his purple patch in Test cricket. On Day 2 of the second and final Test against West Indies in Delhi, the 26-year-old brought up his 10th Test hundred. Gill looked unfazed during his stay in the middle as India went past the 460-run mark. Meanwhile, this was Gill's fifth Test ton while leading the team.

Knock

Another fine hand from Gill

Batting first, India were well placed at 251/2 when Gill arrived in the final hours on Day 1. He played the second fiddle in the 74-run stand with fellow centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal (175) and returned unbeaten on 20. Gill continued the good work on the second day and completed his ton in the second session. He also added 91 runs with Nitish Reddy (43).

Information

Gill returns unbeaten on 129

Gill, who also added 102 runs with Dhruv Jurel (44), returned unbeaten on 129 off 196 balls (16 fours, 2 sixes). His brilliance meant India declared at a massive 518/5. Notably, he made a half-century (50) in the series opener as well.

Record-breaking performance

Over 900 runs as Test skipper

Since taking over as captain, Gill has been on a run-scoring spree in Tests. He racked up an impressive 754 runs at an average of 75.40 in the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England, his maiden leadership assignment in Tests. Playing his seventh Test as captain, Gill has now raced to 933 runs at 84.81. This includes six 50-plus scores, including five tons.

WTC

Most runs in WTC history

During his stay, Gill also became India's highest run-getter in WTC history. Playing his 39th match, he has raced to 2,826 runs at an average of 43.47 (100s: 10, 50s: 8). Rishabh Pant (2,731) and Rohit (2,716) now trail Gill in terms of WTC runs. Gill, who made his debut in December 2020, has not played a Test outside the WTC era.

Feats

Gill joins Kohli

Gill has become just the second Indian skipper to hammer five Test tons in a calendar year. He has joined the legendary Virat Kohli, who smashed five tons apiece in 2017 and 2018. This was his second 50-plus Test score versus WI as he now owns 224 runs against them at an average of 74.66.
