    Meet the nations which have qualified for ICC World T20

    What's the story

    A total of 16 teams are set to battle it out for the 2020 ICC T20 World Cup to be held in Australia next year.

    Australia (host nation) and nine other countries on basis of rankings had already made the cut.

    The other six slots have been decided by the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier.

    Here are the teams that qualified.

    The six teams that managed to qualify from the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier are Ireland, Namibia, Netherlands, Oman, Papa New Guinea and Scotland.

    These six teams along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be playing in the group stage of the World T20 event next year.

    The top eight ranked sides will directly feature in the Super 12 stage of the tournament.

    Ireland

    Ireland qualify for another World T20 event

    Ireland also qualified directly from Group B in the Qualifier.

    They won four matches and faced two defeats in the group.

    They are currently 15th in the ICC World T20I Rankings.

    Ireland qualified for three 50-over World Cups so far (2007, 2011 and 2015).

    The side has also qualified in every edition of the World T20 since 2009 to 2016.

    Papa New Guinea to make maiden WT20 appearance

    Papa New Guinea are currently 17th in the ICC World T20I Rankings. The side qualified for the World T20 2020 after finishing atop Group A. Out of six games, they won five and lost one. This is their first qualification in a major ICC event.

    Other teams

    Netherlands, Scotland and Oman have also made the cut

    Meanwhile, Netherlands booked their ticket to Australia after thrashing United Arab Emirates by eight wickets during the semi-final playoff.

    They had earlier qualified for four 50-over World Cups and three World T20 events as well.

    Joining the Dutch are Scotland and Oman.

    The two teams will feature in the other semi-final of the 2019 ICC World T20 Qualifier.

    Namibia to make maiden appearance at the T20 World Cup

    Namibia are set to appear at the ICC T20 World Cup for the first time after beating Oman during the semi-final playoff. It's a historic moment for Namibia after a comprehensive 54-run win. They will be meeting PNG in the semi-finals of the Qualifier next.
