#INDvsSA 3rd ODI: How have India performed historically at Newlands?

Kohli and company are high on confidence after thrashing hosts, South Africa in the first two ODIs. The action now shifts to the Newlands stadium in Cape town, where India would take on a depleted Proteas side; Quinton de Kock was the latest to join AB de Villiers and Faf Du Plessis on the sidelines. Here is a statistical analysis of the ground.

Spinners will have a good day at the Newlands

Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal will be giving South Africa's stand-in skipper, Aiden Markram sleepless nights, given that the Newlands' pitch is one of the few pitches in SA that favours spinners. The chinaman and the leg break bowler have picked up 6 and 7 wickets, while also keeping the economy below 4. Their form sounds scary for South Africa.

    Statistics favor South Africa

South Africa, however, have a fantastic record at the Newlands. Out of 33 ODIs, Proteas have won 28 boasting a 85% win-rate at the ground. As for India, they have played 4 ODIs and have faced defeat in 2 of them, both against SA. The first ODI on this ground, post South Africa's return, was against India which the hosts won by 6 wickets.

Win the toss, then bat first

The Newlands cricket stadium favours the team which bats first. The team chasing the target has mustered just 12 wins, as compared to the team batting first, which has won 27 of the matches.

Batting first is the trick at the Newlands

The highest ODI total was posted by the Proteas against Sri Lanka in February 2017 scoring 367 for 5. The lowest total was also in February, but in 1993 when the West Indies bowled out Pakistan for a paltry 43. The highest run chase was by South Africa when they successfully chased down New Zealand's target of 257 in November 2000.
