SA appoint Amol Muzumdar as interim batting coach against India
Cricket South Africa has appointed Amol Mazumdar as the interim batting coach for the upcoming Test series against India. The three-match Test series starts from October 2 onwards. Mazumdar was a celebrated Ranji cricketer and holds high-performance coaching certificates from the BCCI, Cricket Australia and English County teams Lancashire and Yorkshire. Here are the details.
Mazumdar's knowledge and experience as a player were terrific. As a coach, he has been of big help to the sides he has been associated with. Muzumdar has been the batting coach of Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. He has also managed the India U-19 and U-23 sides at the National Cricket Academy.
"Amol is a perfect fit for us," commented CSA Acting Director of Cricket Corrie van Zyl. "He brings an intimate knowledge of Indian playing conditions and the challenges our batsmen are likely to face."
Mazumdar seemed excited about the new prospect as the interim batting coach of South Africa. "Cricket has always been and will continue to be my calling," said Muzumdar. "Having spent 25 years on the pitch as a player, I intend to spend the next 25 tappings and grooming talent on the cricket field," he added.
It will be a massive test for South Africa in the three-match Test series. SA will be eager to start well in their ICC World Test Championship journey. They are up against the best Test team in the world. India are fresh from a clean sweep against the Windies. Virat Kohli's men will be eyeing to get the job done against the Proteas.
The appointment of Mazumdar seems like a good decision by South Africa. He will be of immense value for Faf du Plessis' men. He brings a lot to the table and SA should benefit largely from this.
