What's the story

The US Open 2018, which got off to a stunning start on Monday, saw plenty of drama on Day 2. Top guns such as Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Caroline Wozniacki progressed to the second round. Interestingly, severe heat waves impacted the players on court, with many as five forced to retire. Here are the updates from second day of US Open.

Heat

Extreme heat waves making life difficult

Five men's players were forced to retire on Day 2 as conditions in New York were described as dangerous. As per reports, temperatures rose close to 38ºC and humidity skied past 50% mark. Extreme heat policy for men's matches was implemented for the first time by the tournament organizers owing to the conditions. It was a sorry sight to see environmental issues impacting players.
