What's the story
Bangladesh began their 2025 ICC Women's ODI World Cup campaign with a one-sided win over Pakistan at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. They bowled out Pakistan, who elected to bat first, for 129 in 38.3 overs. It was a concerted bowling effort from Bangladesh. Despite a sluggish start, Bangladesh chased down the total in 31.1 overs, with Rubya Haider slamming a half-century.

Pakistan falter after poor start
Electing to bat, Pakistan lost Omaima Sohail and Sidra Amin in the first over itself. Marufa Akter knocked over both batters. Although Muneeba Ali, Rameen Shamim, and Aliya Riaz took Pakistan toward 50, Nahida Akter broke through with two quick strikes. Pakistan were soon down to 91/6 and lost their seventh at 100. Shorna Akter picked the last three wickets, dismantling Pakistan.

Bangladesh too had an early scare as they lost opener Fargana Hoque in the fourth over. Sharmin Akhter also departed, leaving Bangladesh at 35/2. Rubya Haider and skipper Nigar Sultana joined forces thereafter, batting Pakistan out of the contest. The duo propelled Bangladesh past 100 before sealing the win. Haider top-scored with a 77-ball 54* (8 fours).
