What's the story

Porn has always been at the top of the taboo list. Despite getting the highest traffic on the internet, porn sites keep facing massive backlash time and again. But when the US's biggest coffeehouse chain, Starbucks banned porn viewing on its free Wi-Fi, it received an unprecedented response. Pornography giant YouPorn has now banned all Starbucks products in its offices. Here's what happened.

Details

YouPorn VP sends memo to employees banning Starbucks products

Starbucks, after years of promising to ban porn viewing on its free Wi-Fi service, finally announced the ban in all its US outlets. The ban begins from January 1, 2019. In a tit-for-tat response, YouPorn's Vice President Charlie Hughes sent a memo to its employees, which stated that effective January 1, Starbucks products will be banned in the YouPorn offices.

Filter

Starbucks will introduce filter to prevent pornography or illegal content

Although watching porn isn't permitted in its stores, Starbucks currently doesn't have content blockers on its Wi-Fi service. Next year, the coffee giant will introduce a new filter to prevent customers from viewing pornography or explicit content in stores. Starbucks has, however, declined to give details on the solution but said that the company tested multiple tools, hoping to avoid accidentally blocking unoffensive sites.

Pressure

Interestingly, Starbucks had promised to ban porn in 2016

The coffee giant's rollout comes years after facing immense pressure from internet-safety organization Enough is Enough. In 2016, Starbucks had promised to put filters to end illegal content viewing through its free Wi-Fi service. On Wednesday, Enough is Enough acquired over 27,000 signatures asking the company to fulfill its promise. Other companies like McDonalds and Subway had already plugged in the filters in 2016.

Free WiFi

Do you watch porn in public places using free-WiFi? Don't!

Amidst all the chaos, it was surprising to know that people actually watched porn in public places, especially in outlets like Starbucks. In India, which has one of the highest number of porn-viewers, and where people love free stuff, we can only imagine the number. But folks, as much we love free Wi-Fi, McDonalds or Starbucks isn't the right place to savor your orgasm.
