#HappyDiwali: India thanks UN for releasing special Diwali stamp set

On Wednesday, India thanked the United Nations (UN) Postal Administration for special stamps it had issued earlier to commemorate Diwali. India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Syed Akbaruddin, took to Twitter to convey India's regards. The UN Postal Administration had issued the special stamp set on October 19, marking its first ever stamp set celebrating Diwali. Here are the details.

Details about the Diwali special stamp sheet
The special stamp sheet contains 10 stamps and tabs of denomination $1.15, featuring festive lights and the symbolic earthen lamps used in Diwali called 'diyas'. On the back ground of the sheet is a photo of the UN headquarters building, illuminated with the message 'Happy Diwali'. The special stamp sheet is available on the UN Stamps website for $14.95.

Earlier, the US had also released a Diwali stamp
A couple of years back, in October 2016, the United States Postal Service (USPS) too had launched a special stamp to commemorate the festival of Diwali. However, the Diwali stamp was released by the USPS only after significant efforts by the Indian-American community and some Congressional lawmakers, who toiled for seven long years to make the stamp a reality.
