IS warns Saudi Arabia of violence, says 'turn will come'

The IS threatened Saudi Arabia of attacks in the near future. Taking responsibility for the violence in Tehran that left 17 dead, the IS warned of more attacks against Iran's Shias. In a video that looked to have been filmed before the strike on Tehran, 5 masked men threatened the Shias in Saudi Arabia that their turn "will come" after they're done with Iran.

The problem of Wahhabism and Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia which says it's serious about tackling IS is often seen as problematic. IS stems from Wahhabism which gets its name from the strict form of Islam followed in Saudi Arabia. The US State Department concluded that over the past 40 years Saudi Arabia has funded more than £6 billion to spread the message of Wahhabism.

If Saudi Arabia spearheads Wahhabism, why is IS attacking it?

ISIS maintains that the Saudi state has strayed away from the true position of Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab and that IS are true agents of the Salafi or Wahhabi which is the "ultimate religious authority in Islam".

    IS attacks on Saudi Arabia

In 2015, ISIS killed 65 people in 15 attacks in Saudi Arabia. Another 23 were killed during a suicide bombing of a Shia mosque in the eastern province village of al-Qudeeh. In July 2016, IS executed 4 attacks on the tomb of Mohammed in Saudi Arabia- Islam's second holiest place. Ever since Saudi Arabia has decided to deal with IS with an iron fist.

Middle East on alert- Saudi Arabia severs ties with Qatar

Saudi Arabia and 3 of its greatest allies - Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, all severed diplomatic ties with Qatar, suspending "air, land, and sea travel to and from the country". The announcement came after Saudi Arabia blamed Qatar of supporting radical Islamist groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood and ISIS. Libya, Yemen, and the Maldives too joined the diplomatic boycott.

Deadliest twin attack on Iran hits parliament and Khomeini's tomb

Terrorists struck at 2 most important representations of Iran's Islamic government- its parliament building and the of revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini's tomb. 4 gunmen breached security in the parliament and started shooting. The standoff took 4 hours. A bomb was detonated at the tomb. 13 people along with 6 assailants were killed and 43 injured.
