What's the story

As per the recent data released by the Social Security Administration, in 2018, 109 people in the US named their newborn babies Tesla, after the automotive and energy company owned by Elon Musk. However, the numbers have gone down since 2017 when 143 babies were named the same. Interestingly, 2,545 girls were named Arya, possibly after the GoT character.

Liam and Emma still top choices for names in US

SSA, an independent agency of the US federal government, released the data of the most popular baby names of 2018. All the names given less than five times were not included due to security reasons. Meanwhile, top rank holders from 2017 remained the same with a total of 1.02% of boys named Liam and Emma held the top spot with 1.01% girls named that.

Notably, Tesla, the company, was named after Serbian-American inventor and engineer, Nikola Tesla. In early 2010s, Tesla became more popular for girls' name than boys'. As per Nameberry, a baby name site, "The name Tesla is a girl's name of Slavic, Serbian, Croatian origin meaning from Thessaly." Apart from Tesla, Bentley (3,393 babies), Ford (419), Mercedes (236), and Chevy (176), are also popular ones.
