Malaysian MP thinks denying husbands sex is "abuse"
Malaysian citizens are outraged. An MP, while debating amendments to a domestic violence bill in the parliament, said that denying sex to a husband can be a form of "psychological and emotional abuse". According to 58-year-old politician Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh of the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition, it is also "abuse" to deny a man the right to marry more than one wife.
Mr Mohamad Zulkifly said men often suffer "extreme abuse" from wives even though they are physically stronger. "They insult their husbands and refuse his sexual needs. All these are types of psychological and emotional abuse." If men are denied marriage to more than one woman (in Malaysia, one can legally have up to four wives with permission from Sharia court), it is also abuse.
"It doesn't work that way," said women's rights activist Marina Mahathir, daughter of former PM Mahathir Mohamed. "Women have a right to say no." She shared the post on Facebook saying, "And yet we let men rule countries?" "Women aren't sexual tools," said Gopenatan Madaven. "Social illness and corruption are problems to tackle first. Lawmakers can be sex therapists later," said Sharkawi Lu.
