BMW cars will become costlier in India from January
What's the story
German luxury carmaker BMW is planning to increase its vehicle prices in India from January 2026. The move comes as a strategy to mitigate the impact of the depreciating Indian rupee against the euro, company President and CEO Hardeep Singh Brar said. The decision follows an earlier announcement of a price hike of up to 3% from September 1 this year, due to adverse forex fluctuations and global supply chain dynamics.

BMW India sells a variety of luxury cars and SUVs, including electric vehicles. The lineup starts with the 2 Series Gran Coupe priced at ₹45.3 lakh and goes up to the XM, which costs ₹2.54 crore. Brar said that forex fluctuations have been a major hurdle for pricing and profitability, as the rupee has depreciated more than expected against the euro this year.

Price hike decision in light of forex situation
Brar said the company is considering a price hike in January due to the current forex situation. He said, "We are being forced, otherwise, there were no plans. Given the forex situation, it is really becoming difficult to sustain at these price levels." Earlier in 2025, Mercedes-Benz India had also announced its plan to raise prices early next year amid a weakened rupee against the euro.
