Government to set up 72,000 EV charging stations across India

Auto

The government announced a big push for electric vehicles—₹2,000 crore will go toward setting up over 72,000 public EV charging stations nationwide.
The PM E-Drive scheme, launched by the Ministry of Heavy Industries with BHEL as the Project Implementation Agency, aims to make charging your EV way easier in cities and busy areas.

Subsidies and environmental impact

More charging spots mean less "range anxiety" and a smoother switch to electric rides—especially in cities with over a million people, smart cities, highways, and transit hubs.
Subsidies are generous: up to 100% for chargers on government sites, and up to 80% for upstream infrastructure (and 70% for EVSE) at transport hubs, with 80% for upstream infrastructure at other public locations.
This move isn't just about convenience; it's also about cutting emissions and helping India hit its climate goals faster.
If you're thinking about going electric (or already have), this could make your life a lot simpler.
