What's the story

Japanese luxury marque Lexus has unveiled its newest concept EV, the LF-ZC, at the Japan Mobility Show. It provides a glimpse of a high-end electric hatchback/coupe slated for a 2026 release. The eye-catching concept is built on a brand-new electric platform, which will also be utilized by its bigger sibling, the LF-ZL SUV. The carmaker's Chief Branding Officer, Simon Humphries, referred to the LF-ZC as "a fusion of physical and digital technology."

Design

It follows the brand's new-age 'Provocative Simplicity' design philosophy

The LF-ZC's design is inspired by Lexus' new approach of "Provocative Simplicity." The front showcases a unique interpretation of the brand's elongated check-mark headlight design and triangular elements that echo the LFA supercar. The side profile highlights complex concave and convex forms integrated into the fenders and doors, while the low, coupe-like roofline gracefully descends toward the back. The EV is 4,750mm in length, 1,392mm in height, and is aiming for a drag coefficient of 0.20 for remarkable aerodynamics.

Details

Next-gen battery will provide a range of over 805km

Inside the LF-ZC, yoke-style steering replaces the traditional round steering wheel, with controls centralized into two touch-sensitive digital pads for vehicle operations and infotainment. Lexus says that both the LF-ZC and LF-ZL will employ next-gen prismatic battery packs, enabling them to achieve approximately twice the range of conventional EVs. This move will help in alleviating range anxiety concerns, potentially leading to an EPA-rated range of over 805km on a single charge.

Features

It will get an AI-enabled butler function

The LF-ZC will be equipped with the innovative Arene OS, providing adaptability and the potential to merge real and virtual environments. Lexus says that "customers will be able to engage in e-sports using steer-by-wire technology inside the vehicle." The new-age OS will also feature an AI-powered virtual function called Butler, which employs self-learning capabilities to personalize vehicle settings for owners. Additionally, the EV can project information onto its windshield using AR technology.
