JSW MG Motor aims for 80% EV sales in India

Auto

JSW MG Motor, the Indian branch of MG Motor, is aiming for 70-80% of its sales to come from electric vehicles (EVs) in the coming years.
CEO Anurag Mehrotra credits this big shift to EVs finally matching petrol cars on price.
The affordable MG Windsor has played a major role, helping MG's market share jump from under 10% to 30% in just two years.

Mehrotra on running costs and maintenance

According to Mehrotra, running an EV costs just ₹1.2 per km versus ₹6.7 for petrol—so if you drive about 15,000km a year, that's roughly ₹80,000 saved annually.
Maintenance is also simpler and cheaper since there are fewer moving parts and no oil changes needed.

Transitioning to EVs

With tech from SAIC, JSW MG has seen its EV sales take off—especially with models like the Windsor and Cyberster.
While some models are still petrol-powered during this transition (about 20-30%), the company says it's focused on making EVs mainstream and keeping things local and profitable.
