Mercedes refreshes GLE, GLE Coupe for 2027: Check new features
What's the story
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the 2027 model year of its popular GLE and GLE Coupe. The new models come with a refreshed design, updated interiors, and a range of new powertrains. The highlight of the update is the introduction of an AMG variant that packs a punch with its hybrid engine technology. This revamp comes just two years after a mid-cycle refresh for the 2024 model year.
Engine enhancements
The range-topping GLE 580 gets a new V8 engine
The 2027 GLE lineup is led by the GLE 580 4Matic, which gets a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter mild-hybrid V8 engine. The power output has been increased from 510hp to 530hp while the torque has increased to 750Nm. Mercedes claims this SUV can go from zero to 97km/h in just 4.4 seconds.
Torque boost
The GLE 450 now comes with an updated inline-six engine
The GLE 450 4Matic gets a revised 3.0-liter mild-hybrid inline-six engine with an output of 375hp and torque increased from 500Nm to 560Nm. This is thanks to an upgraded electric auxiliary compressor, modified intake camshaft, and revised cylinder head ports. The new engine can take the SUV from zero to 97km/h in just five seconds flat.
Base variants
The entry-level model is the GLE 350
The entry-level model of the range is the GLE 350 4Matic. It gets an updated 2.0-liter mild-hybrid four-cylinder engine with an electric compressor, delivering a power output of 255hp and torque of up to 400Nm. Mercedes will also offer a plug-in hybrid version called the GLE 500e, which uses the new inline-six engine to produce a combined output of up to 429hp.
SUV capabilities
All standard models get Mercedes's 4Matic all-wheel-drive system
All standard GLE models get Mercedes's 4Matic all-wheel-drive system, which can send up to 100% of the torque to either axle. The SUV also comes with a new transfer case with a low-range reduction gear. Mercedes claims the GLE has around 3,000 new or revised components.
Cabin enhancements
The SUV comes with 3 displays under single piece glass
The GLE comes standard with Mercedes's Superscreen—three 12.3-inch displays across the dashboard under a single piece of glass running the brand's latest operating system. The displays sit above revised vents, but most of the interior appears unchanged from its predecessor, like the center console. The automaker has also added two new exterior colors—Dark Petrol and Manufaktur Patagonia Red Metallic—and four new 20-inch wheel designs to give it a fresh look.
AMG variant
The AMG variant is quicker than its predecessor
The Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Hybrid is a major upgrade over its predecessor. It uses a new 3.0-liter inline-six engine with a bigger intake system, paired with an electric motor producing up to 181hp. The combined output of this powertrain is an impressive 577hp and torque figures as high as 750Nm. This makes it half a second quicker in zero-97km/h sprint than its predecessor, reaching it in just 4.4 seconds.
