Rivian recalls nearly 35,000 delivery vans over seat belt glitch

Auto

Rivian is recalling 34,824 of its electric delivery vans because a seat belt defect could cause the driver's belt to fail in a crash—especially if someone sits on a buckled belt.
Thankfully, there haven't been any injuries or accidents linked to this issue yet.

What Rivian's doing and what owners need to know

To fix things, Rivian rolled out a software update on December 3 that warns drivers about seat belt misuse. They're also offering free inspections and quick part replacements (less than an hour per van).
If your van was made between December 10, 2021 and November 8, 2024, you might be affected—but this doesn't include R1S SUVs or R1T pickups.
Owners will get official notifications by mid-January and can check their status online or through the NHTSA.
Already paid for repairs? You can get reimbursed by Rivian.
