What's the story

A unique piece of automotive history, the Porsche 928R, was up for auction. The car was commissioned by the late Lee Kun-hee, a billionaire and leader of corporate giant Samsung. It was put up for auction at the 2026 Amelia Concours but failed to meet its reserve price. It is now up for grabs again. The vehicle isn't as extreme as some other Ruf models but offers more power than its original version from Porsche.

Collection

Only one ever built by Ruf

Kun-hee, South Korea's richest man, was known for his diverse interests. He collected art and led the country's bid to host the Winter Olympics in 2018. But his love for rare cars is what makes him stand out among collectors. This particular Porsche 928R is the only one ever built by Ruf, a company best known for its highly tuned 911s.

Specifications

The car is powered by a Ruf-tuned Porsche V8 engine

The Porsche 928R is a fast grand tourer packed with luxury. It was built from nearly scratch on a body-in-white delivered directly from Stuttgart. The car comes in black with a burgundy red leather interior and an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel. Under the hood, it packs a 5.0-liter Porsche V8 engine tuned by Ruf engineers to deliver 360hp and 480Nm of torque.

Upgrades

It has just under 2,575km on the odometer

The Porsche 928R comes with a four-speed automatic transmission and plenty of luxury features. It was recently upgraded by Ruf with carbon-ceramic brakes and 19-inch five-spoke wheels. Despite its high-end specs, the car isn't meant for aggressive driving on tracks like Nordschleife. It has just under 2,575km on the odometer, which is a testament to its careful use over time.
