Toyota unveils Land Cruiser Prado mild hybrid
Toyota's new 2025 Land Cruiser Prado now comes with a 48V mild-hybrid system, giving its 2.8L turbo-diesel engine an extra boost of 16hp and 65Nm torque when you need it most.
This upgrade will be standard in Europe and is expected to arrive in India later this year.
How does the system work?
The system swaps out the traditional alternator for an electric motor-generator, paired with a 48V lithium-ion battery and a DC-DC converter.
It's all connected to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and uses energy from braking to recharge the battery, helping with smoother auto start-stop and better fuel efficiency.
Off-road capabilities remain unchanged
Toyota says the hybrid setup doesn't mess with the Prado's off-road skills or its ability to wade through water up to 700mm deep.
The motor-generator is waterproofed and mounted high for extra protection, while a handy display keeps you updated on energy use—so you're always in control, even off the beaten path.
