    Karnataka witnessed non-PAN transactions worth Rs. 2,710 crore post demonetization

    Post demonetization, numerous jewellers, petrol bunk owners, real-estate developers and contractors from Karnataka deposited more than Rs. 2.5lakh in their bank accounts till 30th December, 2016. The IT Department has so far tracked 1,055 cases where deposits worth altogether Rs. 2,710crore have been made without providing PAN details, and providing inadequate details about the source of income.     Anganwadi workers continue protests

    Today (Tuesday) is the second day of protest by the Karnataka State Anganwadi Workers' Association. Thousands of anganwadi workers are camping at Freedom Park for a hike in their minimum wages. On Monday, the protesters camped overnight on Shesadri Road. Their demands from the government include increasing honorarium to Rs. 10,000 and their monthly wages to Rs. 7,500.

    NGT cracks down on pollution of water bodies

    The National Green Tribunal directed the Lake Development authority of Karnataka to decimate all constructions including boundary walls falling within 75 metres of all water bodies/lakes of Bengaluru. All sewage plants were directed to match the revised standards issued by the CPCB and Ministry of Environment and Forests. Karnataka government was asked to submit a proposal for the demarcation of wetlands within 4 weeks.

    62% of BBMP's funds spent in clearing payments

    After BBMP uploaded its bill register online, it was analyzed by the Janaagraha Centre for Citizenship and Democracy. According to the analysis, 62% or Rs. 2,281crore of BBMP's funds was spent on clearing of pending bills during 2016-17. Only 14% or Rs. 311.28crore was spent on execution of projects. Despite of this, BBMP is still to clear pending bills worth Rs. 1,700crore.

    Forest officials continue search for tiger cub

    Forest officials of Mysuru and Nagarahole are continuing their search operations for a tiger cub that was spotted on Sunday evening in Naganahalli of HD Kote. The cub was spotted 6 kilometres away from the Mettiguppe range of the Nagarahole forest range. Two elephants named Abhimanyu and Krishna have been deployed by the forest officials for the search operation which includes over 100 officials.

    IISC attacker's accomplice held by police

    In December 2005, a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative shot a scientist on the Indian Institute of Science campus and fled India without a trace. 12 years later on Sunday, the Central Crime Branch of Bengaluru Police detained Habib Miyan, an accused in the same case. Habib allegedly helped the gunman cross over from the Indo-Nepal border. Police are looking forward to more information from Habib.
