Adani unveils India's 1st off-grid green hydrogen plant

Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL) has launched a 5 MW green hydrogen pilot plant in Kutch, Gujarat—the first of its kind in India to run fully off the grid.
Powered by solar panels and backed by battery storage, this project is part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, showing how renewable hydrogen can be made without relying on traditional power sources.

TL;DR

Adani plans to set up green hydrogen hub in Mundra

The plant uses solar energy to split water and create green hydrogen, releasing only water vapor as a byproduct.
Its smart electrolyser tech automatically adjusts output based on sunlight, enhancing operational flexibility and efficiency.
This pilot is also paving the way for Adani's bigger plans: a Green Hydrogen Hub in Mundra that aims to produce eco-friendly ammonia, methanol, and aviation fuel for both India and export markets.

What is green hydrogen and how is it produced?

Unlike regular (gray) hydrogen made from fossil fuels, green hydrogen uses clean energy—here it's solar—to split water into hydrogen and oxygen.
Thanks to battery backup and automated controls, the plant keeps producing even when sunlight dips.
It's a big step toward cleaner fuels for industries that usually pollute a lot.
