Alex Lieberman says missed 2022 text cost $600 million Cursor stake
Alex Lieberman, a US-based entrepreneur, just shared a pretty wild story: he missed a text from Michael Truell back in 2022, and it ended up costing him a potential $600 million stake in Cursor, an AI startup.
Truell had messaged Lieberman for feedback while still at MIT, saying, "Hey Alex! Do you know how to use any tools to help your writing/creative process? I'm an MIT student working on Cursor and looking for some feedback."
Lieberman later clarified he was joking and wrote: "All jokes aside, massive congrats to @mntruell and the @cursor_ai team!"
SpaceX to buy Cursor for $60B
Fast forward to June 16, 2026, SpaceX announced it had agreed to acquire Cursor in a deal valuing it at $60 billion.
The company was started by four MIT students and has quickly become a major player in the AI world.
Thanks to the deal, Cursor's 3 co-founders will each be worth about $2.7 billion according to Forbes.
