Alibaba CEO says AI boom is real, not a bubble
Alibaba CEO Eddie Wu isn't worried about an "AI bubble"—he says demand for their generative AI tools is so high, they can barely keep up.
The Qwen chatbot hit 10 million downloads in just a week, and Wu believes this surge comes from real business needs, not hype.
Big bets and open-source moves
Wu has led Alibaba Cloud to strong growth—34% year-over-year revenue growth in the September 2025 quarter—and announced a 380 billion yuan (approximately $53 billion) investment into AI over three years.
He's also pushing to open-source over 300 Qwen AI models, aiming to make them the "operating system of the AI era" for over 1 million users on Model Studio.
Not everyone at Alibaba agrees
While Wu is optimistic, Alibaba Chairman Joe Tsai recently warned that rapid data center expansion could mean an AI bubble is forming.
Their differing views highlight how even industry leaders are debating where the future of AI is headed.
