Delhi HC stops banks from charging fees on disputed card transactions

Business

Big update for anyone with a credit card: the Delhi High Court just ruled that banks can't slap fees or interest on transactions you never authorized and are still disputing.
This all started when Sarwar Raza was told to pay ₹76,777 for a transaction on a Citibank card he never even signed up for—and after months of complaints, got nowhere.
The court not only made Citibank drop the charges and fix his credit score, but also fined them ₹1 lakh for how they handled things.

RBI told to make complaint process easier

The court didn't stop there—it asked the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to step up its complaint system.
That means real people (not just bots) should review cases before closing them, and small mistakes in your complaint shouldn't get it thrown out.
Plus, banks now have to clearly show online how you can escalate issues if you're not getting answers.
